Clematis ligusticifolia (Western Virgins Bower)

Purchased one in 2022 and one in 2024 (Harlequins) for my garden. Haven’t decided yet where to put it, need to build a trellis. I think I read that it can take full shade!

From CONPS - Virgin’s bower, also known as white clematis, is a native woody vine that can grow up to 20 feet long. Male and female flowers are borne on separate plants. Spring through summer, they are covered with fragrant flowers, 1 inch wide, with a starburst of stamens protruding out from the 4 to 5 white sepals that look like petals and arch slightly backwards. In late summer, the female vines are equally spectacular with big puffs of feathery-tailed seedheads. The leaves are compound with 5 to 7 stalked, lance-shaped, toothed leaflets, rounded at the base and with a sharp tip. Blooms May through September. Water use considered medium, in dry hot areas provide afternoon shade and mulch to keep the roots cool. Clematis ligusticifolia is widely adaptable, tough and disease-resistant.

Rejuvenate by cutting back to 1 ft. above ground every 3-5 years.
